Introduction

► History and Background

In August 1993, the "Department of Information Management" was established at the Taipei campus of our university. In August 2007, recognizing the increasing importance and demand for information technology in the industry, it was renamed the "Department of Information Technology and Management", and the graduate institute was established. The establishment of the department aims to nurture outstanding information technology management talents to meet the ever-changing technological developments and business environments. Through years of development, the department has built an excellent teaching team and teaching resources, providing students with a high-quality learning environment.

Facing the trend of globalization, possessing international communication skills and a global perspective are important for enhancing competitiveness. In line with the "Bilingual Nation Promotion Development Blueprint" proposed by the National Development Council, the department has implemented EMI courses since the 2019 academic year. Each academic year has 6 full English instruction courses. At the same time, progressive mixed English-Chinese bilingual teaching has been implemented in 16 courses such as Operations Research.

To be more concise and clear, and referencing the guiding principles of the department's educational objectives, the expected core capabilities of graduates are the basic qualifications to become software design talents, digital media design talents, or enterprise e-transformation talents. The horizontal curriculum planning aims to nurture well-rounded students with integrity, dedication, optimism, communication skills, and diverse general knowledge. The establishment purpose and educational objectives of the department are fully aligned with the school's philosophies.

 

► Establishment Purpose

The establishment purpose of the department is to cultivate talents with both theoretical and practical abilities in information technology and management. Vertical curriculum planning enables students to possess application capabilities in digital technology, information management, programming, business intelligence, communication coordination, and teamwork. This purpose aligns with the "Digital Nation and Innovative Economic Development Program" (DIGI+ Program). Since the 2018 academic year, the department has constructed the Information Application Service Innovation Program to nurture digital talents and develop relevant courses for intelligent service applications, such as big data analytics, data mining and business intelligence, artificial intelligence and deep learning, business operation analytics, etc.

► Department Development Characteristics

The development characteristics of the department include:

  1. Interdisciplinary integration: Emphasizing the integration of information technology and management disciplines to enable students to concurrently possess knowledge in both technology and management, becoming integrators of the two.
  2. Practice-oriented: Course content design focuses on practical applications. Students can gain experience with real cases during the learning process and develop problem-solving abilities.
  3. Industry-academia collaboration: Close collaboration with industry provides internship opportunities, off-campus projects, industry expert lectures, etc. This allows students to get in touch with the industry during their studies, increasing employability.

 

► Employment and Further Studies

Graduates of the department will possess dual professional backgrounds in information technology and management, with interdisciplinary professional knowledge, making them competitive in the job market and enabling them to find employment opportunities in various fields, including but not limited to:

  • Information technology industry: software development, cybersecurity, data analysis, artificial intelligence, and related positions.
  • Business management: information officers, project managers, operations management, and other managerial positions.
  • Consulting firms: technology consultants, information management consultants, etc.
  • Banking and finance: digital finance, risk management, fintech, etc.

Students who wish to further their studies can pursue master's or doctoral degrees to specialize in more advanced research domains or choose different professional fields for interdisciplinary postgraduate studies. Eligible students can enroll in the department's bachelor-master contiguous program (4+1) and have the opportunity to earn both bachelor's and master's degrees within 5 years. Through postgraduate studies, students can advance their careers in academia, research institutions, or higher-level managerial positions.
